About Dr. Larry Charleston IV, MD, MSc, FAHS, FANA, FAAN

Described by colleagues as a “Modern Renaissance Man”, Dr. Larry Charleston IV, MD, MSc, FAHS, FANA, FAAN is a husband, father (of two blessings), educator, clinician, advocate, researcher, mentor, speaker, author, songwriter, producer and entrepreneur. He has spoken to numerous and varied national and international audiences from neurological to professional development, to business, to communities in seminars. Known for his edutainment, he now combines speaking with original live music to deliver “Keynote Concerts” designed to ignite passion, drive and empower greatness. 

Raised in the inner-city of Detroit by his mother and grandmother and a product of the Detroit Public Schools system, through dedication, determination, hard-work, teamwork and ‘hard-knock’ learning, Dr. Charleston excelled scholastically, academically, and athletically.  From becoming the first African American neurology faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan to leading other institutions’ divisions, Dr. Charleston, a board-certified neurologist and headache specialist with decades of serving and providing world-class clinical care, has made significant contributions to the field. With more than 175 presentations, 55 peer-reviewed publications, 55 abstracts, 50 patient and/or provider educational materials, textbook chapters, and through research, his excellence has been recognized with various awards including lectureship awards from the American Neurological Association and the American Headache Society. He has been featured on Fox 47, iHeartRadio, Medscape, Neurology Today, Hour Detroit, BET.com, The Healthy: A Reader’s Digest Brand, and PBS Health Broadcast to name a few. Yet unconditionally, music remains one of his passions. 

In the music industry, he is an awarding winning songwriter/producer known as “Neu’Raye Pearl”. He has received multiple accolades by Nashville Songwriters International Association Evaluation and Recognition System as “Ones to Watch”. His songs have won awards across different genres in the Song of the Year Song & Lyric Writing and Mid-Atlantic Song Competitions. Additionally, he was a Michigan “w4CountryIdol” finalist, has written and licensed songs for schools and was a voting member of the Detroit Music Awards. His music has been featured by non-profit organizations and maintained a Top 5 position on ReverbNation charts in Michigan for 49 consecutive weeks. 

Dr. Charleston is founder of Charleston Health Neurology & Head Pain Consultants, Co-founder and CEO of Charleston International in partnership with the Amway Corporation and Leadership Team Development and served as a board of director of several national organizations, and has facilitated professional development workshops. Dr. Charleston has gained experience as a legislative fellow in the United States Congress in Washington, DC.  As a scholar-athlete, he was pro-rated in the NFL pro-scout combine his senior year of undergraduate college. 

He has shared the stage speaking with icons such as Derek Jeter in his Turn 2 Foundation and Kristen Chenoweth.
